So you’ve got the dog. And she is as Sosyal as ever. Pampered, cared for, and loved. What more can she need? I think I speak for most dog owners when I say I’d want my best friend to be with me for many, many years. And to have that, I’d need to keep her healthy.

There’s more than a handful of ways to give your dog the workout he needs. Here are just some of them…
Walk!
Dogs love to walk. Around the block, at the mall, wherever. They get to encounter other places, other objects, other people and other dogs even, which helps them become more friendly. This may be the most common of all exercises, and perhaps the most convenient. You don’t need any special equipment at all.
Run!
Running a course with your dog is one way to do it. Though this will require you to be capable of running at pace with your dog as well. Yep, they do love to run. So if you have a wide but safely enclosed field or yard, then take your dog off the leash and watch her take off!
Catch!
Whether it’s throwing a ball or tossing a frisbee, playing Go Fetch, is another one of a dog’s favorite games. Just make sure he’ll be running in safe terrain, and that whatever it is he’s catching is made of safe and dog friendly materials.
Jump!

Kick!
Okay, so maybe they won’t be kicking, more of nosing. Another game, but with balls not exactly meant to fit in their mouths. Playing football with them shouldn’t be too alien of an idea. Don’t you ever wonder why the Philippine football team just happened to be called the Askals?
Workout!
There are actually pet gyms in the metro, with equipment like treadmills, hurdles, teeter boards, and more! Plus PTs… Personal Trainers, or Pooch Trainers to perhaps be more accurate. The Vets In Practice wellness center has just one of these pet gyms, which is where we met Yaya Sari with Aria and San Mig.

These are just a few ideas to get your doggie moving. He can also hike, pull weights, run obstacles, and even dance! But whatever your choice of workout, always remember to respect his limits, keep him hydrated, give him time to rest, and of course, keep it fun… for both of you.
Remember, this exercise thing won’t just be strengthening your little pooch… but your relationship with him as well. That’ll take the work out of working out, and make for a truly Sosyal Dog!
Wow! I didn't know we had something like that already in Manila. Thank you sosyaldogs for posting such stories. Very informative. - Joey
ReplyDeleteHi Joey. Yes mejo marami na rin. Pero one of the first ones and one of the better ones is this pet gym owned by Vets In Practice in Mandaluyong City (beside their animal hospital). :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm learning a lot from this blog. Thanks Sosyal Dogs!
ReplyDeleteWaw, that's encouraging! Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHi Sosyal Dogs,
ReplyDeleteI really like your focus on defining the sosyal dogs. I have two questions to ask if I may.
Is there an insurance company that caters dogs in Manila or in the country as a whole? If yes, what company?
How feasible is the idea of making a dog the heir of a millionaire in the Philippines. If not, do you see this coming in the country?
Thanks :) :)
Hi there. Havent heard of an insurance company for dogs here in the Philippines. But I guess if we could insure our cars, most certainly we could also insure our best friends.
ReplyDeleteOn dogs becoming heirs to the riches of his master... uhm... I dont think we're prepared for that... it's my personal opinion.
Lemme know your thoughts, too. Thanks :-)
Now that's a super sosyal schnauzer! He has a Yaya and goes to the gym? Man I hope in my next life I get to be a schnauzer! LOL! I'm curious though why did the owners get a Lab and a schnauzer? Those two breeds are not necessarily "compatible" so to speak. What was their thought process behind choosing the breeds? Aria seems like a girls name while San Mig I assume is a male. Aren't the owners not scared that the two might breed and they get a "schnau-dor"?
ReplyDeleteOh and may I also get the address of VIP? And if possible, when does Yaya and San Mig the schnauzer go to the gym? I want to see him up close doing the treadmill!
ReplyDeleteHi anonymous. The owners of San Mig and Aria are very private persons. They live in a condo in Mandaluyong. As you know, in condos there are limited areas for dog walking. That's one of the reasons, the dogs are sent to the VIP gym. The dogs visit the gym every two weeks, usually on a Saturday. As regards the reason why the owners got a schanuzer and a lab... i really dont have any idea. My wild guess is that the owners (a couple) fell in love with two different breeds of dogs (that are not exactly "compatible" to use your words). They probably didnt factor the issues you raised when they were choosing their doggies. VIP is located in the Manadaluyong Circle. It's in of the corner streets. Right across it is Tapa King. hey i know the aria and san mig! they live in the condo where i live and are friends with my pet. sosyal dogs, i think i would have to correct you but as far as i know, the owners have them go to the gyms twice a week. aria has a hip problem (?) not sure from birth that was how it started. she has physical therapy sessions with her own pt (now thats sosyal LOL!). she even has her own life vest because the clinic has a jacuzzi cum therapy pool and it helps with strengthening her legs. the schnauzer has his own life vest also but i think he sank more as opposed to swimmming LOL!
ReplyDeleteand the owners felt sorry for the schnauzer that they had him jog to kill time. that apart from the fact that there is really no wide safe walking area here in the condo.
and to the other question of anonymous, there is no chance of the 2 breeding because being responsible pet owners, the owners had the schnauzer neutered and recently, aria was also spayed. aria is still recovering so i think they haven't been to the gym but they'll be back i'm sure when aria has recovered. the owner told me that their vet told them that pets tend to gain weight when neutered or spayed so all the more reason to burn those excess fats!
Thank you for those inside info! I personally do not know the "mom" and "dad" of Aria and SanMig. But with their permission, I was able to interview Yaya Sari. My information came from her.
ReplyDeleteAria and San Mig are very lucky to have very caring "parents"... sosyal!
